Sweet Tomato Basting Sauce: Submitted by: US | Date Added: 11 Apr 2015

Ingredients

1 tbsp (15 mL) vegetable oil 1 small onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup (250 mL) bottled strained tomatoes 1/4 cup (60 mL) tomato paste 3 tbsp (45 mL) apple cider or water 3 tbsp (45 mL) cider vinegar 3 tbsp (45 mL) molasses 2 chipotle peppers minced 2 tbsp (30 mL) packed brown sugar 1 tsp (5 mL) Dijon mustard

Cooking Instructions

In small saucepan, heat oil over medium heat; cook onion and garlic, stirring occasionally, until lightly golden, about 3 minutes.

Add strained tomatoes, tomato paste, apple cider, vinegar, molasses, chipotle peppers, brown sugar, and mustard; bring to boil.
Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until thickened, about 15 minutes.

Transfer to food processor; purée until smooth.

Don't let the simplicity of this recipe fool you..it really comes together. Not sure if this is the "best" steak marinade I've ever had, but it's very good. Left by: Rick (11 Apr 2015)
