8 slices stale bread
softened butter
2 cups shredded Canadian Cheddar cheese
5 eggs
3 cups milk
1 / 2 tsp. teaspoon salt
1 / 4 teaspoon of. teaspoon ground pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Peeling the slices of bread, then lightly butter. Arrange 4 slices of bread in bottom of a 9-inch square pan, greased and baking. Spread 1 cup of cheddar on the bread. Repeat these two layers.

In a medium bowl, beat eggs. Add milk, salt and pepper. Pour over bread and cheese. Bake 35 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Makes 6 servings.
